If dental visits make you feel anxious, you are not alone. Dental fears are fairly common, which is why our team has taken measures to provide you with sedation options for a fear-free dental experience.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas,” is a mild sedative. It is administered through a nose hood and is used throughout the procedure. Nitrous oxide elevates mood and can elicit a general sense of well-being. The most important benefit is that it reduces anxiety and pain during the procedure. There are few side effects to nitrous oxide, and it has been used safely in dentistry for many years. With this option, you can drive yourself to and from your appointment.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is a moderate sedative. Prior to treatment, oral sedative medication is administered to induce a moderate state of sedation. Oral sedatives do not induce sleep, but they do dull the senses. This means that the majority of patients will have no recollection of the appointment. Typically, a dose of medication is taken prior to the appointment and then given as needed during the procedure. With this option, you need to bring a companion to safely drive you home.
